Network Meeting Maastricht

9-11 March 2007

Friday after work I went to Maastricht for the Network Meeting. I went by train, and of course I had a delay, since there was something happened before on that day, the intercity stopped at Lage Zwaluwe en Breda Prinsenbeek, even on the second one, persons had to walk to the front of the train, since the platform was to small for this long intercity. Due to this fact, I just missed in Eindhoven my connection to the train to Maastricht, so I could wait for an extra half an hour. When I arrived in Maastricht, I just saw my bus leaving in front of my noise, so since I was the DJ of the party of that night and it was almost ten, I took the taxi to the scouting house. When I arrived there, nothing was happening yet. Around eleven we planned to start the party, but we had a small problem; we needed three plug ins since we had a stereo, laptop and my external hard disk with the music. We had to wait for more then one hour for a simple thing… in the meantime I played some of my cd’s, since I prepared myself for such events. It was a nice party because it was also European Night, at four in the night the DJ went to bed.

Saturday we started with the nice movie of Al Gore, an inconvenient truth. After the movie we had a discussion about environmental issue’s, if AEGEE should start a working group or a project team, or do nothing… After the lunch we had a short walk to over the Belgium border, and then it seems some miscommunication started, we went on drinking something in a bar, and had some good discussions, while we should have been already some time back in at the scouting place. The next point on the agenda was the AEGEE-Café. There were five tables, with different topics, where you could discuss those, while drinking some coffee. The topics, were Culture, Education Unlimited, Commissions, Comité Directeur (CD) and International Politics. There were some nice discussion on the different tables. After a short break, Nadine Karbach gave a work shop about Network Stereotypes. It was a cool workshop. Then the Maastricht organization organised a nice dinner for us, before we went to a party. We went to their social meeting place, which is named BarRock, so a nice rock café. But they invited a member to be the DJ, and this German guy, was really lousy. He was playing by a play list and he played just house music… that was terrible. I even left the party at twelve with Laura and Nadine. Terrible.

On Sunday the day started with the workshop “The Great and Mighty Tolerance Workshop”, by Michal from AEGEE-Maastricht, it gave insight in how free different people are in different situations. After this interactive workshop, Laura from the CD gave a workshop about Summer Universities (SU). She started with a presentation, and afterwards we talked about good and bad examples of SU’s and how we can improve SU’s. Then another interesting part started of this Network Meeting the discussion about the next Flagship project for the year 2008. Laure from the CD was leading this meeting and after a group discussion, we had four smaller groups, which discussed in more detail four idea’s for the next Flagship project. After this we presented all four proposals. In each network meeting they will do this, and Laure will collect all idea’s from the network and make great plans out of it. This was the last workshop of the meeting, we had a evaluation round and then the goodbye part started. It was a nice experience, and I could see that the Netcom was still searching for the right way to organise such a meeting. Already at one Theijs, the president of AEGEE-Europe came to Maastricht, to have with me a one hour meeting face to face about the structural changes we want to make within AEGEE. It was a nice discussion with Theijs and Laura, and I’m sure in one year our association will work better! At 6 they left, my train left at 18.23; so I had some time to buy some stuff for the nice travel of 2,5 hours. I came home at quarter past nine.
